Damian Lillard Forced To Remove Lil Wayne From New Album
// Added Oct 26, 2016
Damian Lillard’s The Letter O album has been altered due to Lil Wayne’s ongoing dispute with Cash Money Records. The Portland Trailblazers point guard had to remove the Lil Wayne-assisted “Loyal to the Soil,” which you can hear above, from the new LP.
“Unfortunately, I am being forced to remove Lil Wayne from #TheLetterO track ‘Loyal to the Soil’…” Lillard wrote on Twitter Tuesday (Oct. 25). “Despite my agreement with Wayne, his parent label is forcing me to remove him.”
Lillard released the project last Thursday under his rap moniker, Dame D.O.L.L.A. Though his fans are familiar with his musical abilities, this is the first full-length project Lillard has delivered—and he did it in a huge way. The 12-track record included features by everyone from Jamie Foxx and Dupré to Juvenile and Raphael Saadiq. So, yes, it's disappointing that Lil Wayne was cut, but there are still plenty of big-name cameos throughout.
It’s unknown if this removal by Cash Money is business related, or just pettiness due to Wayne’s on-going legal battle with Birdman, but it sucks for Lillard, who’s record was getting momentum & had even reached #5 on the iTunes hip-hop charts.
